So much for working. A couple of possibilities either didn’t pay very much or got rescheduled, one needed a team going to Houston. Which was only 1300 miles. Some “team” loads aren’t really teams. I beat a team to Detroit that they’re still looking for. They were loaded right after I was, I stayed in Vegas for a few hours and drove legally 2000 miles to Detroit. Some teams don’t really drive team.
When Cindy was driving with me, we could drive 1500 miles in 24 hours. That’s only stopping for fuel and usually staying at (or slightly above) the speed limit. We would be paid extra for the quick service, but those loads became further and further apart. When they happened, it wasn’t as much as we were used to being paid.
Our best team load was a trade show going from either San Diego to Orlando. Twice a year a trade show would finish, get packed up, loaded onto 24 team trucks and reopen in the other city. We would meet most of the same people every trip. We called it our Cannonball run. We did it legally, but it was non-stop 2400 miles in about 34 hours. And pay! Holy cow did they pay, about a two weeks normal pay squeezed into two days. Three if you count loading and unloading. The customer even changed all that into single driver trucks, the pay is about average, and not enough to go out of my way for.
