I’m still home after 15 days. A little more than I expected, but when the truck was in for some minor repairs, I was called and told I needed a new clutch. At least it’s under warranty but it wasn’t going to be shipped for 5 days because of some back-orders. I paid for overnight so when it is shipped there won’t be any delay. Hopefully, the clutch comes in today and I can get back on the road Monday or Tuesday. After taking this much time off, it’s going to be hard to go back to work. Cindy goes [...More...]

Well, its been 8 days of home life and as they say, we owe, we owe, so its off to work we go. Oh yes the facts of life that us common folk must follow until age 65 or longer. The Golden Years sounds nice but as my mom says, “There’s nothing Golden about them”. Today we pack the truck and head for San Jose for a pick-up Wednesday that is going to Austin, TX. We have another on the 29th at the same place so we are hoping for a load to take back. My daughter, her husband and [...More...]

The perfect title for this would be “Back on the Road Again”, but I’m pretty sure we’ve used that before. We are back to work. After our large computer customer “rescheduled” their trip, we took the first decent trip that came up. Cindy is at her brother’s house to visit with nieces, grand nieces and grand nephews. I’m delivering the rest of our loads in Orlando and Tampa. This trip was decent paying, but thanks to my packing both half truckloads we picked up in LA we still had room for some extra ($$$) tradeshow freight also bound for Florida. [...More...]

Willie Home from the Hospital

He’s got to wear that for five days. Originally uploaded by Adventures In Trucking So much for my last post about how one Vet said he might have a liver shunt. After all of my research we went and got a second opinion. The new Vet wasn’t concerned at all. He said the one reading from the blood test that was high, wasn’t high enough and another reading wasn’t high at all. We took him in at 7am and we were told he would be ready to pick up at 3:30. When Cindy got a call around noon it was [...More...]

Dr. Randy Pausch is Computer Science Professor at Carnegie Mellon. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006. In his lecture he talks about achieving childhood dreams. He’s still alive thanks to chemo and other drugs but it has only delayed the inevitable. He keeps up his daily blog when he can. This video has been seen over six million times. The video was taped when doctors gave him three to six months of good health. Many people are saying that watching this video has changed their lives. It’s not a sad video. His goal is to have fun every [...More...]

Cindy’s in Minnesota, Wayne’s in Maryland loading for California

Delayed in Alaska

We were suppose to be loaded and ready to go Monday or Tuesday but it has now been pushed to Thursday.  We are currently staying at the Best Western on Lake Lucille.  It has a balcony overlooking the lake and lots of beautiful flowers leading down to the dock area.  They have a very popular restaurant here as it is very busy during lunch and dinner with people sitting inside and outside overlooking the lake.   We went for a long walk tonight but ended up jogging back as the mosquito’s were very hungry as we went deeper in the woods [...More...]

First change is my new site at Life on the Road is up and running. I’m not only one of the contributors, but also the managing editor. Next is the future of Truckingblog.net (my other site) isn’t known right now, but this site (Adventures in Trucking), since it’s more personal and not so much trucking, will always be here. But… I’m going to change Adventures in Trucking. I’m going to improve it (hopefully). I’m moving from a typepad.com hosted site to a self hosted site using WordPress. The main reason is – I need (want) to learn WordPress and while [...More...]

Trade Show

Living in Vegas, tradeshows help in getting us back home. This one we loaded in Chicago for some kind of snack or vending show. We were one of five trucks for the Pepsi booth. This is a portable dock a forklift is used to push it up against the truck then drive back and forth unloading. The inside already mostly unloaded. Ramps are tied up high and blocks for the trailer wheels on the left and a small deck in the back. Driving around inside a building is always fun!

Orlando, FL Monday or Tuesday. Picking up Cindy Tuesday night.
