Christmas tree loader,
originally uploaded by Adventures In Trucking.
We found a load out of Portland and it involved many many Christmas trees. Eight hundred plus and 2000 thousand pounds over-weight equals a fine at the Oregon scale. Wayne was ready to open the doors and let them fall out as they were packed so tightly. He asked several times to the man in charge is this going to put me over-weight. Oh no, was his reply everytime as he had done this for several years now. They were to go to Las Vegas which is where we wanted to be to get ready for our cruise to the Bahama’s. After writing our ticket the weigh-master told us we could go to the next exit and find a way to lighten our load. A truckstop (TA) is where we stayed until help arrived to unload some Christmas tree’s. It didn’t take long for the shipper to arrive with a small truck and some helpers. He was in the area as there were other trucks loaded too heavy with Christmas trees also.
What an experience this was and to find out how much they are marked up would make you sick. The shipper bought them at $20 a tree by the time all the middlemen are done with their cuts the retail price per tree is 80-100 dollars. Hope they take Visa.

1Hello, I just discovered your blog … very cool.
1 question though. I was thinking of getting into the industry and actually teaming with my uncle to start off. We get along great, so that wouldn’t be an issue … my question is, whats average pay for truckers who run as a team? how many miles can you run averaging 6 days a week? he has several years experience, so i figured it would be a great way to get expert training in the field and be a good driver (I currently work as a limo driver). I appreciate any answers/advice you can give.

3yeah, it was pretty funny! 4000 over on the trailer and 2000 over gross. He gave us a break at only 2000 over on the trailer. $82 instead of $250.
