I hit a little snag while delivering fixtures to Macy’s in Salem, OR. The bottom line is, I’m spending the night at the mall. I’d prefer a mall over a truck stop any day. No trucks, quiet, decent food court, nice bathrooms and stores close by.

I took Willie for a walk and we into the mall as Rat Patrol Pest Inspectors! He runs back and forth through the mall so fast he’s only a blur. If the floor wasn’t so slick he would have been able to go around the corners without sliding and wiping out. I may have Cindy make him a little vest with a badge so it’s easier to get by Security next time. I don’t think they believed us, especially when the only “rat” he found was a plastic squeaky toy.

We may go again when the sun goes down. Then I’ll drop the trailer next to the store and find a grocery store close by. I’m at a mall with a Best Buy next door and I can’t think of anything electronic I need, that’s unusual for me, I may go over and browse for a movie that’s on sale or something.

Wouldn’t you know it, freight seems to have picked up after Cindy stays home. My dispatcher was going through all the team loads he was finding and mentions something about how I need a codriver now. I wanted to say something but held back.

Even though the amount of freight has picked up, it doesn’t look like the rates have picked up yet. And even if they had, I think we have made the best long term decision for us. Cindy gets her degree and I get to stay home :) If I stayed home, I would drive us both nuts within a few days, I have two years to think about it. I’m hoping this thing with International Trucks turns into something big enough so I can work from home more and drive less. Getting paid to write, keep up with current events and read the internet, does it get any better? Only if I could do it from the house! You’re visiting Life on the Road, right? Right now, I need to concentrate on working and getting back home. If I don’t say anything, my office would keep me out here forever, so I have to start bugging them to get back home as soon as I leave.
