Ground Zero Still in southern New Jersey, the wind is blowing the truck back and forth like a boat and it’s supposed to snow tomorrow but stop in the afternoon. Hopefully by Monday night things will be cleared up and I can drive to Allentown tomorrow night and be loaded Tuesday. It’s being loaded by a crew which is good, but most of these kinds of loads, product isn’t ready until the last minute. I think I’m sticking with this theme. It’s the same that’s used on Life on the Road, but everything works. All the headers, paragraph breaks, photos, [...More...]
A new WordPress version has come out and I’m going to be upgrading and putting in a few more plug-ins I want to try out. If anything looks funny today (Tuesday), it’s just me. Update: I messed something up. May have to start over from scratch. Good thing for backups. Update2: Holy cow that was fun. After screwing up , reinstalling, then restoring tables, I was distracted and imported Adventure tables into Truckingblog. What a mess. Adventures is fixed and I’m done messing with it for now. Pictures work, the page listing needs a little tweaking, but I can do [...More...]
We’re still in Maryland at the Flying J in North East, MD. We dropped the trailer, went to Wal-mart and a grocery store. Then drove to Newark, DE and saw Ocean’s 13, it was pretty good. Cindy cooked her most excellent chili today while I took Willie for a very long walk. The weather has been great, we’ve had the windows open and the motor turned off except for this afternoon when it was hotter and more humid than yesterday. Cindy’s been reading her book and I’ve been working on Life on the Road articles and I’ve made a few [...More...]
We picked up empty plastic tomato bins in Florida that a farm was moving to one of their other farms in Mappville, VA which is on that little piece of peninsula across the Chesapeake Bay from Virginia and Maryland. We crossed the 15 mile long Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel ($35 for big trucks), parts of it is a bridge then there are parts that go below the water into a tunnel so that large ships can go above the tunnel without having to make a tall bridge or mess with a draw bridge. It would have been cool to see [...More...]
This is going to be the longest two weeks ever! I picked up a load in Connecticut, it only took up about a quarter of the trailer. I sit for two days trying to get more freight with no luck. I take my time going south to Orlando. A couple hundred miles a day, then I’d stop for the night. That’s one week wasted. Cindy comes in Tuesday night and there’s no load in sight. Which will probably be another week. We might get a room or a car and find something fun to do that doesn’t cost an arm [...More...]
Wow! I think I actually did it. Adventures in Trucking is now on its own server and is now a WordPress blog instead of being hosted by Typepad.com. WordPress is a very popular blog platforum, it’s open source (free), but a steep learning curve even for me. It’s been a long time since I actually had to look at a bunch of code, but I enjoyed it way back then and I think I’m going to enjoy learning about php and css, themes and plug-ins, plus all the administration and file stuff inside the server. I’m still working on getting [...More...]
We drove all night so we could unload and reload today instead of being stuck over the weekend. We’re still stuck, but at least we have a little more to do. After we loaded in Georgia this afternoon (Fri) we went to the nearest truck stop and parked. We have three days to do a one day trip and have no desire to be out on the road with all the other nuts drivers. We are on our way to Syracuse, NY then the plan is to get something out of Maryland Wed or Thursday back west to California or [...More...]
Yes, I arrived late Saturday night and took a cab to the Las Vegas Convention Center where the truck was being loaded. It is great being back with my two most important people, Wayne and Willie. I wasn’t sure if Willie would remember me as we have only had him for about one month now, but when I opened the truck door he went crazy and was jumping in my arms. We rested on Sunday until noon, then went grocery shopping so I could start cooking food for the next trip. We are leaving this morning for Kentucky. Wayne has [...More...]
