Alaska Pictures

I realized I hadn’t put our Alaska pictures online since I moved Adventures in Trucking to it’s new home. I was going to split them and get them organized a little, but they would never get up here.

There are 44 pictures, some of British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska all from the Alcan Highway and back. Anchorage, Whittier, where we took a tour of the glaciers and our fishing trip from Homer. For those new to Adventures we took a load of store fixtures to Anchorage back in July 2005.

It was the most incredible trip we’ve ever had. The Alcan is not an easy road and even harder in a big truck. Next time we’re taking the ferry!

Here’s the link to the picture page and it will be listed on the sidebar with the rest of our pictures. There are 44, so it may take a minute to load They don’t have descriptions or titles, I’ll get around to doing that soon, maybe. Here’s the link for the posts we did back then. I’ll have to check and see if there are any more pictures I don’t have listed here. The new top banner is from our Alaska trip.

Our Alaska Trip by wayne

Trucking can be a pretty cool job sometimes! This was an incredible trip, the road to Alaska, our time off and the trip back. We want to go back, every year if we can. I think once a year might be enough. It wasn’t the easiest of trips to do in a truck. It was good to get back in Montana on a real interstate and stop at a real truck stop with paved parking and showers! The weather was phenomenal, we didn’t idle or run the generator the entire two weeks. Overall we had a great time, and made some money while we were at it. We toyed with the idea of what it would be like to live there full time. The answer we came up with is, that we think it would be a challenge. I admire and kind of envy the people that live there full time. Here’s a couple of blogs I ran across from people that actually do live in Alaska full time Alaskanblog and Life in Alaska. We loved playing tourist and would love to do it again in a heartbeat!

All of the pictures that we’re going to upload have been uploaded! Look
on the right hand side of the web page under Photo Albums.

The Road Home

The Alcan back to the lower 48 was as rough as we remembered. We saw even more wildlife on the way home. We’re in Salt Lake City now on our way to Fort Defiance, AZ. Cindy is abandoning ship and catching a plane to Vegas to visit her granddaughters. I will upload the rest of the pictures in the next day or so.

Delayed in Alaska

Cimg0718Cimg0720We were suppose to be loaded and ready to go Monday or Tuesday but it has now been pushed to Thursday.  We are currently staying at the Best Western on Lake Lucille.  It has a balcony overlooking the lake and lots of beautiful flowers leading down to the dock area.  They have a very popular restaurant here as it is very busy during lunch and dinner with people sitting inside and outside overlooking the lake.   We went for a long walk tonight but ended up jogging back as the mosquito’s were very hungry as we went deeper in the woods on the dirt road by the lake.  It was sure a wonderful visit but I think we are both ready to get back to the lower 48.

A Little Quiet Time Today

Today we turn the rental car back in, find a UPS store to mail my fuel
taxes, and will relax the rest of the day. The trailer should be loaded
tomorrow or Tuesday and we will head down to either Fort Defiance, AZ
(close to Gallup) or Albuquerque, they haven’t decided yet. We are
going to go through Vegas and Cindy will stay and visit and I’ll finish
the delivery.
I’ve added to the "Photo Albums" listed on the right side and will be
uploading more photos soon.

Wash Out

Cimg0705Today we drove to Denali National Park to see the park and Mt. McKinley. It was a beautiful day when we left but when we got to the park it was cloudy and started to rain. You can’t drive all the way through the park. Autos are only allowed 15 miles into the park, only shuttle buses are allowed past that point. Most of the shuttle buses looked like converted school buses with those real comfortable bench seats. The shuttle we had time for was a six hour round trip. With the weather the way it was we decided to drive as far as we could, then head back to Wasilla.

Kind of a disappointment. The clouds were so low we didn’t see much. Not Mt. McKinley, which you can’t see half the time anyway and barely any of the other mountains. Didn’t see any bears, but saw a few moose. We picked out the tour we want to get on the next time. It will probably involve getting there the night before, stay in one of the hotels or cabins then do the tour the next day.

The trip back went through a major thunderstorm with a little hail, made it back to the truck okay.
The sign is the best shot we had inside the park.

This is from the restaurant where we had lunch.Cimg0708

Here’s a moose and a couple of calves.

And the view from the furthest point in the park for autos. You can see how cloudy it was and it kept getting worse.Cimg0716

Gone Fishing

Cimg0656A quick note to let everyone know we are fine and having fun. Went fishing on this charter for halibut and stayed here in Homer, AK. We only did a half day charter because we wanted to fish, but not spend the entire day of 10-12 hours on the water. We didn’t go out as far as some of the others so our fish aren’t quite as big, but we had a great time. Caught two halibut each, nothing real big, but we’ll be eating really good fish for a long, long time. Cooked it all in the suite we had for the night. Everything worked out perfectly. The weather was great, we got the shorter tour and a great place to stay.
Here is the view we had from our two level condo -

A Day at the Glaciers

Cimg0589Yesterday we went on this day cruise to see the glaciers around Prince William Sound. A really nice boat. We had a good time and saw a lot of glaciers and sea otters. I started uploading pictures of our trip up here and will get to more pictures soon. On the bottom left of this site is a list of all the photo albums we have online here.

Which One of These…

Cimg0546Doesn’t belong? This is our home for the next week or so. We are about 40 miles NE of Anchorage close to the town of Wasilla, AK. We went into town and rented a car for the week. The truck needs a wash, but I didn’t see any Truck or even RV washes close by. It’s been raining almost every day. Not bad, and not for long. But a few showers here and there.
The sun never setting is kind of hard to get used to. We’ll be doing stuff, not paying attention to the clock and all of a sudden it’s 11 o’clock at night, but it’s as bright as it is at noon.
We’re off to Whittier to take a day cruise around some glaciers.
