Cimg0188 I prefer the back roads to the interstates any day. Where we get views like this and the scenery is right in front of you instead of behind a barrier or anything else. Some interstates do have incredible scenery, but I’ve seen them a dozen times. We don’t get to go the back roads very often and because of the way we get paid, it’s not always the best way to make money. These pictures were mainly from our trip from Phoenix, AZ to Seattle, WA. The back roads were between Gallup, NM, Moab, UT and before we got back on the interstate at Salt Lake City, UT.

Cimg0191 Between Gallup and the Colorado line is all Navajo Indian reservation. The scenery was great with rock formations sprouting out of nowhere. But the poverty we drove by was just as staggering. We stopped in Shiprock, NM for a break and to change drivers and we were hit up for money twice in the 10 minutes we were there. It was clear we were the only two white people in town. Most of the homes looked small but okay. There was one development of row houses that looked pretty bad. I was under the impression that most of the Indians were either taken care of or had gambling money of some kind.

Cimg0199 Overall it was a good trip until we hit snow and had to put chains on the truck. But nothing we couldn’t handle. Here’s a few more pictures from that trip.
