The choice is Wayne's, I will be at home waiting for him no matter what he decides. I am not going to give him an ultimatum, he needs to be happy and secure with his own decision. I would love to have him home with me and plan to make this transition as easy as possible. Thanks to his patience with me I did decide to come off the road almost 2 years ago. I will graduate from college in June and I am currently working with the State of Nevada as a Family Service Specialist in their welfare department. In layman's terms I work with families to determine eligibility for welfare benefits such as food stamps, medicaid and temporary cash assistance. I don't think that I will not be working anytime soon because of the economy and 57 people were hired to start in the next Academy. This position with the state is pretty secure especially during the economic crisis that most everyone including Wayne is experiencing.

Hi Wayne - congrats on the mile marker - bet you don't feel a day over 49 :-) This is a very good post, and I could not agree more with you on several points. For myself, and my family - I chose not to stay out on the road because of the very reasons you've pointed out. I did, however - Find other avenues and ways to make work of this industry - and now I'm a desk jockey in a field that I once hailed as being liberating. :-) Funny how stuff works, huh? But I do have 5 nights and 2 weekends a week with my family - and that counts for a lot. Good luck on this new chapter Wayne, really I mean that. Poking and prodding, attempting to figure out how to maintain a balance between work/life - is what most of us folks spend a lifetime doing. What you're doing is natural and expected - and you should count your blessings that you haven't lost everything in these times. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is uncertain - and today is the start of the rest of your life. Good luck and God bless.
