About this Site

My other sites Life on the Road and Just Trucking Around are all about the news and opinions in the trucking industry. This site isn’t. It’s all about driving around this great country enjoying the scenery and the day to day trucking lifestyle. We have some pictures, video and stories about the places we’ve been. Sometimes it’s just a job, but other times, it really can be an adventure.

This is my first venture into a self-hosted Wordpress.org blog. Which means, “We’re not in Kansas anymore!” It’s a drastic change from having everything done for you. So, if you show up some time and things look a little odd, don’t adjust your sets, I probably messed something up!

Update: Just Trucking Around is no more. I’ve redirected everything to Life on the Road. Technically Life on the Road isn’t “mine”, but I am the Managing Editor.

About Cindy

I had been working for a major insurance carrier for 15 years before making the BIG decision to move my life into a new direction. Of course downsizing and closing our office made the move a lot easier. No really, I was ready for a change in both my personal and professional life. I was married for 25 years and have two children that are grown, married and parents too! I was happily single, dating and for the first time in my life partying.

Since I married at 16 and had two babies at 19, it was my turn to kick up my heels and go out every Friday and Saturday night especially since I moved to Las Vegas after my divorce in 1998. Lots to do here and lots of new friends at work and dates to join in. Then in August ‘03, I saw a picture of Wayne on a dating service and sent him an email. We exchanged phone numbers and one week later meet at the Rio in Las Vegas for lunch. Of course being careful I brought my whole family
including my 4 year old granddaughter who managed to ask him the most questions.

All went well and as you know by now, Wayne did ask for another date. So as things progressed so did my curiousity of Wayne’s profession. I went on the road a few times and fell in love with him and his adventures in traveling. We shared not only beautiful scenery but a bond that I never even imagined possible. That is why I choose trucking and now have my CDL and of course my team partner.

About Wayne

I’ve been driving truck since Oct ‘98. I’ve pulled a reefer (refrigerated trailer) and dry van and had to deal with the hassles that accompany hauling produce and boxed meat. Including lumpers, refrigerated warehouses, farms and the stink of meat plants. Now I haul Special Commodities also called pad wrap or blanket wrap freight. Things that require special handling. Electronics, new furniture, even personal household moves once in awhile, trade shows and the like. It’s still a hassle, just a different kind of hassle. But there are good parts to it too.

Before trucking I was a Network Technician and Computer Programmer. Computers have always been a hobby from my first Commodore 64 computer. I started trucking after having a short term contract installing and upgrading computers in nursing homes all across Kentucky and Tennessee. Driving from place to place I noticed almost every truck had a help wanted sign on it. At
the time I was going through my second divorce and had already lost everything from the first one. Starting with nothing, I borrowed the money for school and started driving. I’m only beginning to understand the trucking business. Having my own authority and being completely independent is something I’m not sure I’m going to do yet. At the moment, I’m (mostly) happy with the people I’m leased to.

I met Cindy online and after many emails and phone calls our first date was pretty incredible and it keeps getting better all the time. I talked her into driving with me after her corporate cubicle was such a disappointment. Driving and sharing this job is like no other. I loved trucking before, but didn’t like doing the “tourist” things by myself. Having someone else in the truck and in such a small space, changes everything. It’s said, that couples that drive together either get closer or end up hating each other. We’re getting closer, but we still need a little alone time too.

Update: Cindy’s not driving anymore. Because of the slow down in trucking, we decided it was best if Cindy finished her Bachelor’s degree, find a real job and we go from there. If I keep driving, I will not have the pressure I have now and will be able to stay close to home and be home more often. Or I will be able to have the freedom to do something else.

Cindy will keep updating Adventures in Trucking as she goes through school with straight A’s so far!
