Merry Christmas

Wayne and Willie came home on December 23rd and we let Willie open 2 gifts yesterday.  He loves shaking it and riping off the Christmas paper.  Wayne left the video camera in the truck but we may be able to show you some pictures.  It is so nice to have us together at Christmas!!  I have been studying College Math so I will be prepared for the test.  I may have to breakdown and just take the class as the test seems a little bit harder than I remembered.  If anyone is interested I will post a sample test exam for you to take.  I have a final on January 3rd on another class called “MANAGEMENT: THEORY,PRACTICE, APPLICATION” and one last presentation which I will get together with my group and prepare.

Macy’s has kept me very busy with no days off until today.  I will work the rest of the week but I believe I have the weekend off unless I volunteer to do inventory prep.  I think spending time with Wayne and Willie is a lot more fun.  I hope we take Willie to the dog park soon so he can play and run.  He got a new coat, sweater and boots (yes, boots) for Christmas and we hope to get a picture of that too.  The sweater will be great in Las Vegas now,  but the coat and boots are for cold and snow up north and back east when he is back on the road.

Hope everyone is as blessed as I am this Christmas and remember “Jesus is the reason for the Season”

Rock-a-bye…

Ground Zero

Still in southern New Jersey, the wind is blowing the truck back and forth like a boat and it’s supposed to snow tomorrow but stop in the afternoon. Hopefully by Monday night things will be cleared up and I can drive to Allentown tomorrow night and be loaded Tuesday. It’s being loaded by a crew which is good, but most of these kinds of loads, product isn’t ready until the last minute.

I think I’m sticking with this theme. It’s the same that’s used on Life on the Road, but everything works. All the headers, paragraph breaks, photos, comment area, everything works and looks good with no unnecessary stuff. I might change it from two sidebars to only one, I liked the picture on the top banner like the other one, especially since it was taken in Alaska and I may change some of the colors. Since I have all this time on my hands, it will be a good learning experience.

The picture is Ground Zero from my trip to New York City back in 2003. I have a few more I need to post.

Waiting, Waiting…

willie under his blanket I now have a load going to California, but it doesn’t load until Tuesday. It’s a hurry up and get there. I topped off the fuel tanks today so I don’t have to mess with that for a few days.

I left the Petro in Bordentown to go south fifty miles to get fuel in southern New Jersey. Fuel at the Petro was $3.68 and fifty miles away is $3.139. Even though I have to back-track to go north to Pennsylvania it was worth it. Plus, that Idleaire thing gets expensive at about $1.50 an hour it adds up. At least I didn’t have to pay to park. Apparently, the parking attendants don’t work on the weekends. If my shore power on my generator was working, I’d go back and get free parking and free electric.

willie and his ragIdleaire is supposed to be cheaper than idling, but Volvo engines say they take the least amount of fuel to idle between 0.2 and 0.5 gallons an hour. The generator takes about the same, but it saves wear and tear and I get 3000 watts of electric without running the engine (when it works). And I can switch the motor off and on without being charged a full hour. Plus, I need to look for a store

I fixed the design for Adventures in Trucking, but I may still change it. I’m leaning toward the theme I have on Life on the Road, because there are several things in that theme I want to try out. You may still log on one day and see something different.

What Happened…

to Adventures in Trucking? I don’t know. I looked at the site this morning, it was still there, but the display was messed up. I spent the last three days working on Life on the Road’s new look. I didn’t even think I touched AiT, but something wasn’t right. So this is temporary until I either find out what happened or choose a different one. And I think I may have found some pictures that aren’t listed on the photo page yet. Plus, WordPress came out with a version upgrade that I probably need to install, now is as good a time as any, this way I can see if it works before I put it on Life on the Road.

I’ve got plenty of time. I was looking at loads and there are plenty coming out of California, but for some reason nothing I can haul out of the Northeast without going to and getting stuck in Florida. If I’m here over the weekend, I may just start driving west until I either find a load or get home. I will wait till after the big storm this weekend. Right now in Southern NJ, the sun is out. But everyone is talking about the storm further north and more this weekend.

I hate having to pay to park, and now that my generator isn’t working AGAIN! I would be idling somewhere else. I’m almost out of food in the fridge, so I’ll have to spend money in the truck stop restaurant, idle or pay for heat or pay for parking, pay for shower, it’s getting to the point that it costs the same amount of money to sit as it does to drive. Hopefully something will come up that moves west.

New Jersey

Being almost busy didn’t last long. After going through Queens and Long Island (I love this part of the country! No, really!) Me and Willie are settled in at the Petro in New Jersey. A really large lot with Idleaire. Some Idleaire locations have free electric, so trucks with shore power (like mine) can plug in and it’s free. So, I have heat, TV and microwave without idling the truck or even the generator. It is pay to park so I will have to pay something to get out of here.

Petro is the worse chain of truckstops that allow people to try to separate truckers from  their money. There must be five different little vendor booths in the truck stop selling something, including a charity of some sort that harasses you as soon as you walk in the door, a couple of Chinese massage tables setup behind dividers and the normal vitamin and cell phone vendors. It’s like running a gauntlet of homeless people asking for money. Look straight ahead, don’t acknowledge comments or make eye contact. Or maybe it’s just me.

I try and take Willie out for a walk at least once a day, I should do it more often, but it’s not the safest area. Outside the truck stop there aren’t any sidewalks and inside the truck stop, well… it can be like a game of frogger sometimes. Good thing trucks don’t have much in the acceleration department.

I made a new podcast over on Life on the Road. It was my idea to do a podcast, but I was hoping I could get someone else to actually do it. I need a new microphone or speech lessons, I’m not sure which. I sound like I have a lisp and my dentures are loose. (I didn’t think I had either!) Plus I’ve been working on a new design for that site. I’ve tweaked a few things, but I want a brand new design for several reasons. There are a few things this design doesn’t do, especially handling pictures and some of the inner workings could be better.
